My Plan to Survive a Zombie infested CanadaSubmitted by Kobold Lord on Wed, 05/27/2009 - 19:05 |
This plan is very specific for my survival with my city and neighbours and friends however with customization anyone else living in a city may benefit. You may use this plan as you see fit.
The first phase of the plan involves initial defence for their first uprising. My dad is a historical actor as am I so he has a collection of swords and axes that we know how to use. While living in Canada puts a cap on guns and such articles my dad has an old M1 carbine and some real shots for it so that provides some firepower. I also have an old flintlock musket also for historical acting which I know how to make shot for, if lucky I may be able to get one or two shots of with it. So My family is somewhat armed but I don’t plan on them believing my warnings until it is to late.
Anyway as before mentioned I have the disadvantage of living in Kitchener, one of the heavily populated areas of Canada so my initial defence is key. My friend and neighbour has a two story house perfect for defence. It is built on a small hill and has windows in good sniping position. I take my sack of supplies and weapons and book it over to his house. If he and his father are still alive they can help if not...well I put them out of their misery. My plan is formed without them, if they live I’ll find stuff for them to do. I barricade the front door and begin looking for anything in his house worthwhile as a weapon. Now some of my most trusted friends have already planed where to meet me and so they should arrive at the safe house by now. These are people I trust my life with and so there is no one I would rather trust my life to not like the cops or military who are most certainly infected. Anyway my friend Vince may have been able to bring some more guns but I doubt it. If he hasn’t we have to make do with an M1 an old flintlock musket, a hand crossbow with six bolts and a bow and a few arrows that I own and forget to mention.
While people are panicking in the streets doing the things that panicked people do me and my small collection of friends are boarding up the windows and doors, sharpening swords and axes and rationing food. I take the flintlock, because I know how to use it, and head up to the top floor to provide cover. My friend Mary is in cadets so she has the best chance of using the M1 so she gets that and stations herself on the first floor. The bow and hand crossbow are handed to whoever can use them. The others gather melee weapons and an assortment of throwing weapons and wait for the onrushing swarm. With careful rationing we should be able to last around five days. After that most people will be dead, Zombies or long gone. See if we had tried to move at the beginning we would have been caught in the crowd and easy to kill, and we wouldn’t have made it very far. By holding out we have now made escape easier however the risk is that there is more Zombies to fight. Anyway we loot any of the cars still parked. My friend Jonathon is twenty five and can drive really well and the aforementioned Vince is also a good driver. So they take the wheels of the vans if we can find them, cars if we can not get vans and begin an important stage, looting.
Phase three involves hitting the most important parts of the now Zombie infested town. It is important that you hit the buildings in the correct order otherwise you may be stuck in a hot spot with no way out. Now we head to the Police station first because one they may still be alive and two even if they aren’t we can finally get some real guns rationed out. We loot the place of firearms and the Kevlar armour. The Police riot gear should be particularly helpful and the riot shields will be good for semi instant temporarily cover. Now we try to get armour for everyone and a handgun for everyone, preferable a colt .45 but I’m being optimistic. If we are really luck there will be some shotguns and submachine guns which we can help ourselves to and everyone can pick the weapon they are most suited to using. I’d grab a pare of sawed off shotguns if they’ve got them and a twelve gage if they don’t. With everyone armed and armoured up we then drive to a nearby mall which has an entertainment section, a grocery store and a hardware store. Everyone takes backpacks and we take as much food from the grocery store as we can, preferably canned. Hopefully the looters would have fled or been killed by now and most of the stuff will be left. There will be a lot of Zombies but that is why you hit the Police station first, with everyone in Kevlar and helmets they should be well protected against bites but they shouldn’t push their luck in case of infection. Next we hit the hardware store and get what you would expect, Chainsaws, hammers, nail guns, etc. etc. Then we hit the entertainment section if we can and grab, gameboys, PSPs DVD player and stuff like that because while it isn’t mandatory it helps keep people from going insane. We then drive to the Church to see if anyone there is left alive. Hopefully the Pastor, ( a friend of mine) will be alive, if not we leave. Then we drive to a mobile home lot that is about five minutes away from my house by car and we take a mini van. Then phase four begins, however everyone in the party should have a role by now.
My Party
Leader : Me
Soldiers: Mary, Joe Vince, Chris, James, Ben? ( if not killed at beginning)
Tech guy: Jonathon
Medic/cook: Holly
Entertainer: Grant
Pastor? ( Pastor Bob if lucky)
We should also have the following supplies.
3 weeks worth of food ( caned mostly)
several litters worth of soft and alcoholic drinks ( in case the Zombie virus is waterborne)
Four Police riot shields
A battery powered Radio
Lots of batteries
Lots of duck tape ( very helpful)
around 12 handguns
around 10 sub machine guns and shotguns
Kevlar armour for everyone
Various swords and axes ( katanas Basket Hilts rapiers to name a few)
3 hammers
4 firemen axes
loads of nails
2 nail guns
a chainsaw
Meat cleavers
lots of movies and battery powered devices
first aid kit
back aid kit
lots of flash lights and lamps
paper and pencils (to document our struggle)
spare clothes
Warm clothes
A portable stove like a camping one
lots of gas
A TV ( small)
Various toiletries
A computer rigged for internet access
anything else deemed useful by the other members of party
Now comes phase four of the plan which is where we escape. I live in Canada and stealing an Idea from Red Vs Blue My little group is going to take our mobile homes all the way to Nunavut. Up there it is freezing cold and with no body heat Zombies will freeze and be much easier to kill. The difficult part is getting there. We will keep moving as much as possible and stop at gas stations and convenience stores that look empty. We may pick up other survivors along the way if it is convenient and at no risk. However we will be on the alert for insane people, looters and Zombies. It will be a long trip but our salvation lies at the end. If we can hit and loot a military base and get big weapons that would be nice. We have to keep the gas level up so spare tanks for siphoning gas from the stations as we pass. If the vehicles break down we will either repair them if we can, or if we can’t steal another transport. We should try to pick up tents or something along the way for when we arrive.
Phase 5 This is assuming we make it to Naunavut. By now I may have picked up other survivors if not my little band will be battle hardened. This part of the phase involves setting up a small colony to weather the storm until the Zombie threat dies down. All the warm gear should be distributed and the tents pitched. On the first day finding an easily defendable location is my primary goal. A cave is the best option, provided I clear it out first. If that fails and there Is no cave to be found the next best thing is a small valley with a stream for water and perhaps feeding ground if we managed to find any animals. If we use the valley option walls need to be built on both sides and guards posted. Sleep in shifts and always be ready. The next few weeks should be spent setting up the buildings as we erect a more permanent living area. We will always have guards on duty as by now camps of survivors will be few and far between and the Zombies will be hungry for warm flesh. They should start to die off now but one big push should be coming as they try to get us. Our little band will be constantly drilling for when the big Zombie push comes. Then over the months there will gradually be less and less Zombies and we will begin to explore our surroundings. However we will always be on guard. Finally the horde will be almost gone and we can return to our homes and begin repopulating the earth.
That’s my plan in essences comments and ideas are always welcome since they may save my life.

Well made! Just....
I'm pretty new at this, so I'm sorry if you don't agree. But I have a few suggestions for your plan?
Saying you and your dad are historical actors, I'm automatically gonna assume that those weapons are showpieces and wouldn't suggest using those. The guns are a very good temporary weapon, but as for the bows, with both of them you'll share the same problem with aiming unless you have a laser pointer or have REALLY good aim, and 'a few' arrows won't do you any good. Depending how much your quiver holds, that'll be good for about... half of that number of good hits, if you're lucky, not to count the load time so don't bother with that.
You also mentioned that the police are most certainly infected, so why the hell go in there after the first wave? If you won't even trust your life with living ones, you'll risk your life to go into a station full a possble and probable re-animated ones? (no offense)
I can see where you're coming from when it comes to weaponry and defence, but think of it logically. Think about how many people will have already attempted this idea. People who believe going to the police is the first thing to do. People who are unprepared. People who have no idea what to do in this situation and are the easiest prey to zombies and will be the first to be attacked. The police station and the mall are probably the most dangerous places to go to, even if you survive to get the artillery from the station.
I live in Canada, and in a largely populated area too, and I wouldn't try that unless I had no other choice.
Lastly I have a few suggestions for your supply list:
-do not drink alchohol. Unless you're planning to make Molotov Cocktails, but even that isn't very useful.
-Chainsaw is the worst weapon you can have. Forget that.
-Weapons like meat cleavers and machetes may seem useful, but they require you to get very close, and are suprisingly easily breakable. Especially the meat cleaver, being very short and not giving you a lot of distance from the attacking zombie.
-The TV is acceptable, but the movies? Not the time, and not needed.
Maybe think about choosing a crowbar instead of your axe? Watch how much weight you'll be carrying too. Other than that, you have a pretty well made plan ^^
There is one problem with
There is one problem with going to Nunavut. There isn't a road there! The only access is by air into towns like Iqualuit, Rankin Inlet, etc. Another tip for anyone considering living up north. Learn to hunt and preserve food. Keep in mind you'll only have ~2 month long summers, and that means a lot of work regarding maintenance of your home and gathering supplies for winter. Another thing is that treeline only covers a fraction of Nunavut and I personally think that would be essential for life to be sustained up there. Your plan is very good, although, I'd consider relocating to place like north/central saskatchewan or manitoba. I guarantee you'd be just as remote as Nunavut if you were willing to go into the thick of these areas. Good to see you have a varied group to achieve this undertaking with you.
Comment
If I lived in Canada I would try and make my way to Alaska just because zombies can't handle cold temperatures and will be way way way way easier to kill.
