Sunny Shores
Before the outbreakstarts, i will have several things planed.
First, i plan to make it to a North Sea oil rig from Glasgow. (i will have my route mapped out later on in the plan)
Second, i will have signed up for fencing classes, fire-arms,(small arms, i.e. a hunting rifle) first aid classes and i would have a cardiovascular course set up for daily use. To this end, i would already have procured two fencing/jousting swords, either a Winchester or Remington bolt action hunting rifle and around 250 rounds of ammo. In addition to that, i would also have a standard first aid kit and enough sustainable food to last around two to three weeks.
PLAN.
I would go to a friends house who lives two miles or a 30 minute walk from my house. He is also a member of this site, Ciaran A Gunn. He would likewise have his own gear. He owns a transit van in which we could get out of the city in under two hours, due to general chaos. From here we would travel to Inverness, 147 miles away. Before leaving the city, we would pick up two or three friends who are also survival minded. When we arive in Inverness, Ciaran has family there who would be able to help us replenish our supplies and possibly help us hire a boat.(its cheaper to hire and we will not be coming back any time soon) On our arival to the oil rig, if word has spread to them, it should be relitivly empty. It would already have its own food and medical stocks able to last around nine months for around twenty people.
SUNNY SHORES.
Including our own supplies and therigs, we could last around two years.(supplies made for twenty men spread between five or six will last for a good deal longer) Since we are on an OIL rig, we will not need any power source for many years. Over the years we are there, we would moniter the radio to see if it is safe to go back. When the food runs out, we would still have the boat aquired many moons before to go fishing. Water purifacation equipment would also be on the rig before we arrived. We would also have to eat kelp, crabs and whatever comes our way. If in the unlikly event of a zombie crossing our path, we would still have the means of destroying it. On finding a ship, we would raid it if it was derelict, if it had survivors we wouldnt exclusivly invite them on board, but we would not attack them unless provoked.
This is my plan for around 5 years survival. Soon i will produce one for a doomsday scenario and a stay at home plan as well, i.e. a class one or two outbreak.

Not bad at all! Oil rigs are definitely a great option, even better than a boat by my count. Just a few things to consider:
On the matter of getting a fencing sword. Which type of sword are we talking here? If you're meaning one of those foils, then you're going to get bit pretty quick. I might recommend you getting a military saber. They're similar in style to fencing, but date back to when swords were actually still used as weapons and makes for an excellent stabbing weapon with a slight edge for minor slashing. Even this though you need to be careful with, as unless you're stabbing the zeds through the heads every time, you're only going to be doing superficial damage. Why I prefer a hand and a half sword- much more focused on the slash than the stab and far better for disabling your opponent through severing limbs...
On the matter of Oil rigs, just be careful of weather. A bad storm in your area could potentially sink the platform unless you're an expert on how the thing works, which I'm assuming you're not. Just keep up to date on all weather patterns via the monitoring systems that are sure to be on board and consider moving to an area not known for storms if need be (yes, platforms DO move, they just take FOREVER to do so).
